In Homoeopathy, the remedy is chosen for the person, not for the disease. Each time you get an illness like fever, cold, stomach upset, throat infection etc., the pattern of symptoms changes.

Even if the diagnosis is the same (“fever”), the symptom picture is often different:

  • The cause may be different (e.g., weather change vs. exertion vs. infection type)
  • The modalities may change (better by warmth / worse at night / thirst increased or decreased)
  • The mind symptoms may vary (irritability, anxiety, dullness, oversleepiness)
  • The intensity and pace of illness may differ (sudden high fever vs. slow onset)
  • The associated symptoms change (body ache, chills, headache, vomiting, etc.)

Because each acute attack shows a new totality, the indicated remedy also changes. So a medicine that matched your symptom totality during the last fever may not match the new totality now. And when the picture doesn’t match → the medicine doesn’t act.

Simple way to explain to patients

“Just like no two fevers are exactly the same, no two remedies for you will be exactly the same. I select the remedy based on your current symptoms. If today’s fever picture is different, your remedy also needs to be different.”
